We could not do what we do without our volunteers. Our faithful volunteers give generously of their time to serve as client advocates and peer mentors, to sort clothing, answer phones, maintain files and so much more. We love each and every one of our volunteers and you will too when you meet them at our Centers.
Born in Bethesda and raised in St. Mary’s county, Olivia was all too ready to leave her small-town home after high school and pursue her college aspirations of becoming a social worker in Pittsburgh, PA. She never expected God would call her back to St. Mary’s. After living in Pittsburgh after college and then Maine for several years, God did in fact call her back to her hometown in 2009. Starting from nothing, she began working with at-risk families while going to grad school. Wanting to do more to impart the truth of grace and love that can be found at the cross, she then answered the call to become Executive Director of Care Net in 2016. While it was a leap of faith to accept this position, she knows it was part of God’s plan for her life and has not looked back.

Cindy has been the Office Manager at Care Net Pregnancy Center of Southern Maryland for five years. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Wilkes University in Wilkes Barre, PA and has over 20 years of accounting and management experience in the banking and telecommunications industries. Cindy loves using her bookkeeping skills for God’s glory at Care Net. She is married with three lovely daughters and is a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Lexington Park. In her free time she volunteers at Little Flower School and enjoys cooking, time with family and reading. Cindy loves animals and all of her own pets are named after food! Cindy’s favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Cindy has been the Calvert Center Director for 9 years. As a Pastor’s wife for over 30 years Cindy has held many positions, some named, some not. She met her husband in Pensacola while he was in the Navy and she was in school to become an ultrasound tech. Cindy and her husband have two children: Sarah, who is married with three perfect children (yes, she said perfect – she is a Nana ya know!) and Hannah, who is 19 and from Guatemala. Her children are her joy! Cindy has worked in many ministries, including being a Housemother in a maternity home for unwed mothers, but working at Care Net woke up something inside of her as she watched the miracle of the Body of Christ coming together week after week united in purpose – to share their story and the love of Christ and to see lives transformed.
Cindy can wiggle her ears and loves Arkansas Razorback football. On Sunday mornings you will find her running to church, as that is the busiest day of the week for her family. In her rare moments of spare time she is learning to knit and she loves to walk the beach.
Jocelyn is the Center Director of Care Net Pregnancy Center of Southern Maryland’s Lexington Park Center. She and her husband, Mitch, have been in Maryland for 30 years. They have three beautiful children, two of whom are on their own with their own careers, and one who is just beginning her career. Jocelyn came to Care Net SOMD as the Center Director of the Leonardtown Center in 2010 when it opened. She is so thankful God brought her to Care Net Pregnancy Center. From the beginning, working for Care Net SOMD has been a huge joy as well as challenge! Jocelyn has a passion for people and teaching. She loves sharing the truth of the gospel, telling people about their Creator, and helping those in need. She is currently working on her Bachelor’s degree in Biblical and Education Studies – and is almost done!
She is very proud to be from the Great Sate of North Carolina and loves pine trees and azaleas! She loves listening to music, playing guitar, and singing. Reading is also a favorite past-time, and her personal library continues to grow.
Amy is the Center Director of Care Net Pregnancy Center of Southern Maryland’s Leonardtown office. She is a Texan, born and raised, and can spit over three feet to prove it. She has been the wife of a crazy Army man for 28 years now and she still likes him! Amy is the mom to 6 fantastic kids, three of whom are done cooking and out on their own and have added 2 beautiful daughter-in-laws to the family. The younger three are still simmering at home for a few more years. Amy has always wanted to be in the circus, but she is a little spooked by clowns. Instead, she’s settled for creating her own circus and a juggling of a different kind. Amy juggles things like working at Care Net, Homeschooling 3 kiddos, keeping an Army soldier in line and volunteering at church every time the doors are open in lieu of flaming torches (the flaming torches would probably be less dangerous). Amy enjoys cake, wearing flip-flops and making silly faces at babies until they smile. She loves meeting new people, so, if you are brave enough, she’d love you to stop by Care Net’s Leonardtown Center and meet her to find out the rest of her story and see all the wonderful things this ministry is doing in our community!
Kara grew up in the Buckeye State but don’t count her as one of those avid THE Ohio State fans… she prefers to be known as a loving Mountaineer Girl who was raised by her Daddy right. She went just across the state to a small college in Southwestern Ohio, Cedarville University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a Bible Minor. It was at Cedarville that she fell in love with a Southern Maryland boy who brought her back to this place she had never even heard of. Kara started working in the Emergency Department at Medstar St. Mary’s Hospital. She spent two years there learning and growing her nursing skills. In June of 2017 she joined the staff at Care Net Pregnancy Center of Southern Maryland as the Nurse Manager. When she’s not spending time with her husband enjoying the beautiful outdoors and company of friends and family, you can most likely find Kara with her two Goldendoodles, Fitz and Jemma. Kara and her husband welcomed a baby boy into their family in September 2018. One thing Kara’s dad always said growing up was, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink. So live out Matthew 5:13. Be the salt that makes people want to drink the Living Water!” And that is her desire here at Care Net- to be the salt and light for those who may not know who our God is or even how great He is!
Kim hails from Pottstown, Pennsylvania. At the age of 6, she trusted Christ as her Savior. As a teen, she was very active in her church Youth Group and Choir. Long before the advent of the PC, she received her Certificate of Business Data Processing, but her real passion was music – particularly vocal studies. She received her Bachelor’s degrees in Bible and Music from Philadelphia College of Bible. During her studies at PCB she fell head over heels for a pastoral major with a beautiful tenor voice and earned her MRS. Degree. The pair followed God’s leading to various states and church ministries, as well as maintained a concert ministry together for several years until after the births of their two children. As a pastor’s wife, Kim sees her role as being a support and a helpmate to her husband, and a support to the church as she strives to obey the Lord. Kim joined the Care Net staff in 2012 as the Program Assistant, which is a fancy way of saying, “a little of this and a little of that,” though her primary responsibility is that of maintaining client statistics and the database. She enjoys baking, producing artisan chocolates, playing piano and spending time with and/or Skyping with her family.
Chrissy grew up in a little town in South Jersey and studied at Rutgers University after high school. She married Bob, who was active duty in the U.S. Navy, and they moved to Fallon, NV where Chrissy finished her Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of Nevada, Reno. Their next duty station brought them to Southern Maryland, where Chrissy completed her Master of Science in Management at Florida Tech’s Patuxent Campus and fell in love with the local area. After a few more moves around the country, a switch from active duty to civilian life and two beautiful daughters, Bob and Chrissy have made Southern Maryland their forever home. Both have recently become ordained ministers through their denomination and are planting a local church.
Chrissy has a passion for learning and communicating and loves to put that passion into action at work and in ministry. When she’s not at work or church you will find her managing the home front (including two crazy dogs and a bossy old-lady of a cat) or seeking some kind of local adventure with her family.
Dr. Ejiroghene Onos
Dr. Ejiroghene Onos [Ejiroghene means “Let us praise God!”] was born and raised in Massachusetts. Her parents are originally from Nigeria. She graduated from Cornell University with a B.A. in Spanish Literature and Language in 2006. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in 2011. She began active duty service with the United States Navy in 2011 and began her Family Medicine internship at Naval Hospital Jacksonville in Florida. After completing her residency in 2014, she took orders to Naval Health Clinic Patuxent River in Southern Maryland as a staff physician in the outpatient clinic. She remains on active duty and was promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 2017. Dr. Onos is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Christian Medical & Dental Association. Her hobbies include learning languages, playing the piano and reading. She is very grateful for the opportunity to be the Medical Director for Care Net Pregnancy Center of Southern Maryland.
Holly Nilsson has served as a clinic nurse and patient advocate since 2009. She took a 4 year break from performing ultrasounds and returned in 2017. Holly received her BSN from St. Louis University and a BA in Chemistry from St. Mary’s College of Maryland. Holly and husband Walt have been in Southern Maryland since 2005 where Walt serves as Senior Pastor of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. They have 4 children, ages 6-13. She loves the opportunity Care Net Pregnancy Center of Southern Maryland affords to blend clinical practice with the love of Christ to minister to clients in a time of great need. Holly also loves to provide ultrasounds and OB education during overseas mission trips to third world countries each year.
Louise is one of Care Net SOMD’s Clinic Nurses. She was born and raise in Southern Maryland and live here with her husband and four children.
Shelby Whitlock was born in a little podunk town of Missouri during one of the longest and coldest winters in Midwest history (maybe that’s why she still doesn’t like the cold). While in high school, Shelby made unhealthy relationship choices and became pregnant with her first son, Christopher. She is now married to her best friend and true love, CJ, and can see God’s protective hand in her early life.
While being the wife of an active duty sailor and the full-time mom to four boys, Shelby earned her BS in Healthcare Management from South University. The Whitlock family moved to Southern Maryland in 2012 and Shelby became a Care Net SOMD volunteer in 2013. Now passionate about educating others on the topic of healthy relationships, she received her Sexual Risk Avoidance Specialist Certification in 2014 and left a full time job at a medical office to join the Care Net SOMD staff in June 2018. Shelby and her family currently live in Calvert County with three cats, two hedgehogs, a cornsnake, a bearded dragon and a new puppy. Because she has all boys or because she is a country girl, she can climb trees and she is not afraid of things that creep, crawl or slither.
